To completely delete a virtual machine (VM) from Windows 10 Hyper-V Manager, follow these steps:
Open Hyper-V Manager:
- Press the Windows key, type "Hyper-V Manager," and press Enter.
Locate the VM:
- In the Hyper-V Manager, under the "Hyper-V Manager" node in the left pane, select the host computer where the VM is located.
- In the center pane, you will see a list of all VMs on the selected host.
Shut down the VM:
- Right-click on the VM you want to delete and choose "Turn Off" to shut down the VM gracefully. If the VM is already off, skip this step.
Delete the VM:
- Right-click on the VM and select "Delete" from the context menu.
- A confirmation dialog will appear. Click "Delete" to confirm the deletion.
Delete VM files (optional):
- By default, when you delete a VM from Hyper-V Manager, it will not delete the VM's virtual hard disk and configuration files.
- If you want to delete the VM files as well, you can manually remove them from the storage location.
- By default, the VM files are stored in the "Virtual Machines" folder in the "Documents" folder of the user who created the VM. You can also check the VM settings in Hyper-V Manager to see the path of the VM files.
Please exercise caution while deleting a VM, as it will permanently remove all data associated with the VM. Make sure to back up any important data before proceeding with the deletion.
