How to backup Windows (Server 2016) Language-Settings
Comment

To backup the Windows language settings in Windows Server 2016, you can export the language settings from the registry using the reg export
command in PowerShell. Here are the steps:
- Open PowerShell with administrator privileges.
- Type
reg export "HKCU\Control Panel\International" C:\lang_settings.reg
and press Enter. This will export the language settings from the registry to a file calledlang_settings.reg
in the root of the C drive. - Copy the
lang_settings.reg
file to a safe location for backup.
To restore the language settings, you can import the lang_settings.reg
file back into the registry using the reg import
command in PowerShell. Here are the steps:
- Open PowerShell with administrator privileges.
- Type
reg import C:\lang_settings.reg
and press Enter. This will import the language settings from thelang_settings.reg
file into the registry. - Restart the computer to apply the language settings.
Note that this backup and restore process only works for the language settings in the current user's registry hive (HKCU
). If you need to backup or restore language settings for all users on the system, you'll need to export or import the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Language
registry key instead.
