How to close cmd in batch file
To close the Command Prompt (cmd) window from within a batch file, you can use the exit
command. The exit
command is used to terminate the current command prompt session or batch file. When you execute the exit
command in a batch file, it will close the Command Prompt window.
Here's an example of how to use the exit
command to close the Command Prompt window from within a batch file:
batch@echo off
echo This is a batch file.
echo It will close the Command Prompt window after a delay.
timeout /t 5 >nul
exit
In the above example, the batch file will display some messages, wait for 5 seconds using the timeout
command, and then close the Command Prompt window when the exit
command is executed.
Note that if the batch file is running in a Command Prompt window that was opened manually by the user, the exit
command will close that specific Command Prompt window. If the batch file was executed from another script or program, it will close the Command Prompt window associated with the batch file execution.
Keep in mind that once the exit
command is executed, the batch file terminates, and any commands written after exit
will not be executed. If you want to execute additional commands before closing the Command Prompt window, ensure they are placed before the exit
command.
