How to disable software SMI (System Management Interrupt) in Windows
In Windows, disabling the Software SMI (System Management Interrupt) involves modifying the system's Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) settings. Here's how you can do it:
Open the Device Manager:
- Press the Windows key + X on your keyboard and select "Device Manager" from the menu that appears.
Expand the "System devices" category:
- In the Device Manager window, locate and expand the "System devices" category.
Find the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System" device:
- Look for the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System" device in the list of system devices.
Access the device's properties:
- Right-click on the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System" device and select "Properties" from the context menu.
Disable the Software SMI:
- In the device's properties window, go to the "Details" tab.
- From the "Property" drop-down list, select "Hardware Ids".
- The "Value" field will display a string similar to "ACPI\PNP0A0A".
- Copy this hardware ID value.
Edit the Windows Registry:
- Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
- Type
regedit
and press Enter to open the Windows Registry Editor.
Navigate to the ACPI device registry key:
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:graphql
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ACPI\<hardware ID>
- Replace
<hardware ID>
with the hardware ID value you copied in Step 5.
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:
Disable the Software SMI:
- In the registry key for the ACPI device, locate the "Device Parameters" subkey.
- If it doesn't exist, right-click on the ACPI device key and select "New" > "Key" to create a new subkey named "Device Parameters".
- Inside the "Device Parameters" subkey, create a new DWORD value named
SkipBiosInterrupt
with a value of1
. - This will disable the Software SMI for the ACPI device.
Restart your computer:
- Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
After following these steps, the Software SMI should be disabled for the ACPI device in Windows. Keep in mind that modifying the Windows Registry carries potential risks, so it's recommended to create a backup of your registry or create a system restore point before making any changes.
