How to generate encrypted doc using gnupg via command line?
To generate an encrypted DOC (Microsoft Word) file using GnuPG (GPG) via the command line, you need to perform the following steps:
Install GnuPG: If you don't have GnuPG installed, download and install it from the GnuPG website or use a package manager appropriate for your operating system.
Generate or import GPG keys: Before encrypting the DOC file, you need to have GPG keys. If you already have a GPG key pair, you can skip this step. Otherwise, you can generate a new GPG key pair using the
gpg --gen-key
command, or import an existing key using thegpg --import
command.Encrypt the DOC file: Once you have GPG keys available, you can use the
gpg --encrypt
command to encrypt the DOC file. Here's the command syntax:
cssgpg --encrypt --recipient recipient_name --output encrypted_file.doc file_to_encrypt.doc
- Replace
recipient_name
with the name or email address of the recipient whose public key you want to use for encryption. - Replace
encrypted_file.doc
with the desired name of the encrypted output file. - Replace
file_to_encrypt.doc
with the name of the DOC file you want to encrypt.
Example:
cssgpg --encrypt --recipient john@example.com --output encrypted_document.doc document_to_encrypt.doc
- Enter the passphrase (if required): If your GPG key is protected by a passphrase, GnuPG will prompt you to enter the passphrase before encrypting the file.
After running the gpg --encrypt
command, GnuPG will use the recipient's public key to encrypt the DOC file, and the encrypted output will be saved to the specified encrypted_file.doc
location.
Note: The recipient should have the corresponding private key to decrypt the encrypted DOC file. The encrypted file can be decrypted using the gpg --decrypt
command with the recipient's private key.
