Install winget by the command line (powershell)
To install the Windows Package Manager (winget) using PowerShell, you can follow these steps:
Open PowerShell: Launch PowerShell by searching for "PowerShell" in the Start Menu, and then select the "Windows PowerShell" or "PowerShell" app.
Check Windows version: Verify that you are running Windows 10 version 1709 or later. Winget is available starting from Windows 10 version 1709.
Enable Windows Developer Mode (Optional): If you haven't already enabled Windows Developer Mode, you may need to enable it. Run the following command in an elevated PowerShell session:
powershellSet-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Force
Download the Microsoft Store App Installer (Optional): If you are running an older version of Windows 10 that doesn't have the Microsoft Store App Installer, you can manually download it from the following link and install it: Microsoft Store App Installer
Install winget: In the PowerShell console, run the following command to install the Windows Package Manager (winget):
powershelliex ((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString('https://winget.azureedge.net/cli/WinGet-0.5.12192.0.msi'))
This command downloads the winget installer from the official Microsoft repository and executes it.
Verify installation: After the installation completes, you can verify the installation by running the following command:
powershellwinget --version
If the installation was successful, it should display the version number of winget.
Once winget is installed, you can start using it to search and install various applications from the Microsoft Store and other sources. Remember to close and reopen your PowerShell session after the installation to ensure that the changes take effect.
Please note that administrative privileges may be required to install winget.
