Registry key to force shutdown from a remote system
Comment
1 / 1
To force a remote system to shutdown, you can modify the Windows registry on the remote system to allow remote shutdown. Here's how to do it:
- Open the Registry Editor on the remote system by running the
regedit
command. - Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
- Create a new DWORD value with the name
LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
and set its value to1
. - Close the Registry Editor.
After making this change, you should be able to use the shutdown
command with the -s
option to remotely shutdown the system. For example:
bashshutdown /s /m \\remotecomputername
Note that you must have administrative privileges on the remote system to modify the registry.
