Script .batch to rename a computer
To rename a computer using a batch script, you can utilize the WMIC
command-line tool available in Windows. Here's an example batch script that renames a computer:
batch@echo off
set newComputerName=NewComputerName
echo Renaming computer to %newComputerName%
WMIC computersystem where "name='%computername%'" call rename name="%newComputerName%"
echo Computer renamed successfully.
pause
In the above script, replace NewComputerName
with the desired new name for the computer. The script uses the WMIC
command with the computersystem
class to rename the computer.
Save the script with a .bat
file extension, such as rename_computer.bat
. Run the batch script with administrator privileges by right-clicking on it and selecting "Run as administrator."
Please note that renaming a computer requires administrative privileges, and the computer may need to be restarted for the new name to take effect.
Ensure you have appropriate permissions and follow any organizational policies or procedures when renaming computers on a network. Test the script thoroughly in a controlled environment before deploying it to production systems.
