Unable to wget after migration from win2008 to win2016
If you are unable to use the wget
command after migrating from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2016, it's likely because wget
is not a built-in command on Windows systems. In Windows, the equivalent command to download files from the web is Invoke-WebRequest
, which is part of PowerShell.
To download files using Invoke-WebRequest
in PowerShell on Windows Server 2016, follow these steps:
Open PowerShell as an administrator by right-clicking on the Start button, selecting "Windows PowerShell (Admin)."
Use the
Invoke-WebRequest
cmdlet to download the file. For example, to download a file from a URL, use the following command:powershellInvoke-WebRequest -Uri "https://example.com/file.zip" -OutFile "C:\path\to\destination\file.zip"
Replace the URL with the actual URL of the file you want to download, and specify the desired destination path for the downloaded file.
Wait for the download to complete. Once finished, the file will be saved to the specified destination path.
Note: If you have scripts or automation that previously used wget
on Windows Server 2008, you will need to modify those scripts to use Invoke-WebRequest
instead. The rest of the script should remain largely the same.
If you still encounter issues or errors while using Invoke-WebRequest
, ensure that your internet connection is working correctly, and the server can access the web. Also, check for any network-related configurations or firewalls that might be affecting web access from the server.
