Using a batch file, how can I rename this file?
To rename a file using a batch file on Windows, you can use the rename
or ren
command. Here's the basic syntax to rename a file:
batchren "current_filename.ext" "new_filename.ext"
Replace current_filename.ext
with the name of the file you want to rename, and new_filename.ext
with the desired new name for the file, including the file extension.
For example, if you have a file named old_file.txt
and want to rename it to new_file.txt
, you would use the following command in your batch file:
batchren "old_file.txt" "new_file.txt"
If the file is located in a different directory, make sure to provide the full or relative path to the file.
Here's an example of a complete batch file that renames a file:
batch@echo off
rem Replace "current_filename.ext" and "new_filename.ext" with actual filenames
set "current_file=old_file.txt"
set "new_file=new_file.txt"
rem Rename the file
ren "%current_file%" "%new_file%"
echo File renamed successfully!
Save the above content in a text file with a .bat
extension, and then run the batch file by double-clicking it. The file specified in current_file
will be renamed to the name specified in new_file
. Make sure to replace the placeholder filenames with your actual filenames before running the batch file.
