Where are positions of desktop shortcuts stored?
On Windows, the positions of desktop shortcuts are stored in a file called Desktop.ini
. The Desktop.ini
file is a hidden system file located in each folder that represents the desktop of a user account.
To access the Desktop.ini
file, follow these steps:
Open File Explorer and navigate to the desktop folder. The desktop folder is typically located at
C:\Users\<username>\Desktop
, where<username>
is the name of the user account. In the desktop folder, make sure that hidden files and folders are visible. You can enable this option in the "View" tab of the File Explorer ribbon by checking the "Hidden items" checkbox.
Look for the
Desktop.ini
file in the desktop folder. It contains configuration settings for the desktop, including the positions of shortcuts.
Note that modifying the Desktop.ini
file directly is not recommended, as it may lead to unexpected behavior or corruption of the desktop configuration. It is best to use the desktop customization options provided by the operating system or through the user interface.
